Unit price normalisation
Comparing prices across pack sizes requires normalising to a common unit — and treating pack size as part of identity.
A twelve-pack and a twenty-four-pack are different products. Comparing their sticker prices produces a number that is arithmetically correct and commercially meaningless.
Pack size and unit of measure belong in identity, not in a display string. Once they are structured attributes, cost per unit is computable and comparison becomes valid.
This is most acute in grocery, pet and consumer health, where the same brand ships in many formats and shoppers substitute freely between them.
